Overview

The department of Food and Agricultural Engineering covers a wide range of academic areas dealing with Post-Harvest Technology, Dairy and Food Engineering, Farm Machinery and Power, Soil and Water Engineering, Watershed Management, Non-conventional Energy Sources etc. The department trains the students with scientific and technological tools in the field of specializations. Furthermore, it promotes the existing knowledge in the Food and Agricultural Engineering through research and development programs, in collaboration with other Universities and Research Institutes, as well as with industries.

Mission

To implement education, research and outreach programs designed to foster knowledge and understanding in the area of the Agricultural and Food Engineering.

Vision

To equip students with technical skills in various aspects of agricultural engineering, watershed management, food processing and packaging aspects

Objectives

Ø To evolve designs of agricultural implements, tools, machines etc. especially suitable for farmers and artisans working in rural area;

Ø To develop appropriate processing and packing techniques for minor forest produce and agro based rural entrepreneurship;

Ø To train human resources in the specialized industrial areas;

Ø To be a center to provide know-how for agricultural implements and machines/tools.

Ø To adapt and disseminate techniques for conservation of water and soil with the use of appropriate technologies and efficient utilization of available water resources.

Ø To provide latest technologies for efficient and best utilization of farm produce including fruits, vegetables and other materials available at village.

Career Opportunities

Students graduating in Agricultural and Food Engineering are very much in demand and find rewarding careers in the industrial sector. The Faculty provides a job placement service to help students find summer training as well as permanent positions.

The students of past batches are suitably placed and many of them are working with market leaders among agricultural and food industries. Besides some of among the passed outs opt for software industry or higher education in engineering/management. Employer industries on record for employing past students include Coca-cola, Pepsi, ITC, Britannia, Parle, Perfetti, Cadbury etc. for food technologist and established tractor manufactures,  farm/irrigation  machinery manufactures, Nationalized Banks and Government Departments, Watershed Management Projects etc. for agricultural engineering graduates.
