Overview The department of Rural Engineering has a broad base concept to improve livelihood of rural population. It is well known fact that socio-economic conditions differ in rural areas as compared to the urban population. Therefore appropriate technology is required to be developed for this area. The rural areas need such kind of technology which does not need high degree of intellect to comprehend, are sustainable in nature and user friendly. It signifies the requirement of more innovations and technical up-gradation in technologies and technological systems so that its adoption becomes easy. The Rural Engineering Department has to work a lot in the field of rural sanitation and drinking water. The concept and technology need is very different from the urban requirements. Environmental protection and ecological study is also our priority. The academic course is designed to cover all these parameters by interaction, case study, high-tech research and feed back. The course contents are not rigid but and are modified according to the feed back from the vulnerable group. |

Objectives Ø To create professionals at UG level who can care for socio-economically weaker sections of society. Ø To plan for employment generation for weaker section of rural areas, so as to help for their livelihood preparations. Ø To evolve designs of tiny machinery and tools for village industries and artisans working in rural area. Ø To upgrade appropriate technology for self help groups (SHG). Ø To train human resources in the specialized village industrial areas. Ø To be a center to provide know-how for implements and machines/tools. Ø To adapt and disseminate techniques for conservation of water and soil with the use of appropriate technologies and efficient utilization of available water resources. Ø To provide the latest technologies for efficient and best utilization of biomass to make manure. Ø To provide cost effective technology for house construction. Ø To provide technology to construct all weather road by using local materials. Ø To provide suitable technology for disposal of human excreta and waste water generated in community. Ø To provide technology to remove Arsenic, Nitrogen etc from ground water at vulnerable areas. Ø To develop data base and concept of planning by Remote Sensing and Information Technology. Ø To be a centre of excellence for facilitating rural development through creating urban facilities. |

Career Opportunities The Faculty provides a job placement service to help students find summer training as well as permanent positions. Students graduating in Rural Engineering disciplines are very much in demand and find rewarding careers. The economy of modern India highly depends on the growth of rural sector. Therefore, this sector needs technocrats who can fulfill the requirement of technology development and its dissemination at the grass root levels. Our UG course is designed on above considerations. The students will have ample opportunities in the government, private and NGOs, entrepreneurship development is another salient feature of the programme. So, it could be concluded that the bright career and social service motive will attract youths’ to join this course. |
