OVERVIEW

The department of Biological Sciences was formed in 2006 by the combining previously existed two departments i.e. Zoology and Botany in the restructuring. The department imparts the knowledge of different aspects of Bio-sciences like diversity of plants and animals, natural resource management, molecular cell biology, molecular genetics, biotechnology, human physiology, biochemistry, ecology, EIA, forestry, landscape ecology and wild life management etc. The department promotes current trends of above fields of bio-sciences through research & extension as the mandate of university.

MISSION

To educate and trained the budding scientist of this region in the various area of life science for playing active role in the development of society from the scientific, ethical, legal and socioeconomic points of view.

VISION

The vision of the department is the proper utilization of human and  natural resources of the area for the eco friendly sustainable development.

OBJECTIVE

Ø To disseminate the knowledge of different aspects of biological sciences

Ø To take-up action research programmes on the recent trends of life sciences like natural resource management, EIA, Biological control of different crop pests & mosquito larvae, health impact assessment,  biodiversity identification and management, ethno botanical studies, application of GIS & RS in natural sciences.

Ø To extent the current knowledge of life sciences to the society for their welfare and socioeconomic development

Ø To spread scientific knowledge through training programmes for enhancement of productivity and conduce to peoples welfare.

Programs & Courses

The three year UG and two year PG programme are designed with the aid of leading members in the bioscience field to help bridge the gap between the industry and academic. The subject offered are aimed to provide students with a good foundation and knowledge and hands on practical experience of the different fields of life sciences for their future carriers.

RESEARCH  PROGRAMME

Ph.D. – Biological control of insects pest and mosquito larvae, Biodiversity identification and management, Application of RS & GIS in EIA and HIA, Landscape ecology, Ethnobotany, Green herbicide and Ecology of mammals etc.

CARRIER OPORTUNITY

Biosciences graduate students of our department have many options in higher education in the area of biotechnology, bioinformatics, biochemistry, zoology, botany, chemistry, industrial chemistry, geology, environment and RS/GIS. PG students have carrier options in teaching and research in medical sciences, wild life management and ecological monitoring, environmental awareness and impact assessments oriented jobs in National and Multinational organization as well as Government institution, which are engaged in research and development.
